今日、パブリックアートということばは日本でもかなり耳慣れたものになってきています。しかし、わが国におけるパブリックアートは、海外でのカテゴリーに比較して格段に狭義の意味に使われており、その多くが行政主導型で実施され、単に「公共空間に設置されたアート作品」という内容のものとなっています。 それらの作品がどのように環境と調和し、社会的な意味を持ち、いかに市民の生活に貢献しているかという点について問題視された事はあまりなく、既存の事例に関する批評、アカウンタビリティの評価やその理論的研究もなされてきていないのが実状です。 本研究会は、パブリックアートを広くアートと社会の関わりという観点から調査研究し、アーティストと住民のかかわりやそのプロセス、作り手の立場や依頼者の視点、そして利用者・市民からの評価、また建築や都市計画との関連性などさまざまな角度から広く分析を試みます。また、現在までに実行されてきた国内外のプロジェクトの関連資料を積極的に収集し、その比較検討を行う予定でいます。 2002.12.27 Ａ＆Ｓ アート＆ソサイエティ一同 MISSION Today, the term "public art" has become familiar also in Japan. However, public art in Japan categorizes much narrower meaning compared to other countries. Most of them are government-driven and it simply means "artwork installed in public space". Issues such as how these artworks harmonize with the environment, have social significance, or contribute to the people’s daily life have been rarely questioned. Under the present situation, only a few existing artworks are critiqued, recognized for its accountability, or researched for its theoretical significance. Art & Society aims to further its study and research for "public art" by using the broader definition of public art as in relationship between art and society. We attempt to analyze public art from various angles, such as the artist and community members’ relationship and its process, viewpoints of the artist and the client, feedbacks from the users and the citizens, and its relevance in architecture and urban planning. In addition, information related to the existing artworks in Japan and other countlies will be actively collected and will be studied comparatively. From the Art & Society Members
